DS1307 works well in controlled environments, however if you are looking for a RT Clock that will work in any environment then look no further. This module is based on the DS3231 IC, hence the naming of the product. The difference between the two is that the DS3231 has an internal crystal which is not affected by external temperatures and the DS1307 has an external crystal that can be affected by the environment. The difference is the DS1307 will require a recalibration of around 5 minutes each month. Comes with a 24C32, 32K EEPROM integrated onto the board and allows you to insert a backup battery.

This shield is a two in one, you can plug it in an arduino (uno and mega are compatible) or use it as a standalone development board for the esp8266 wifi module! Switch between the two modes by flipping the two switches on the top right corner: they control the serial communication between the two boards.
