Integrating INA231A into the sensor, it supports 1.8V I²C, measures bus voltage (0–28V), shunt voltage, current, and power, with programmable calibration and averaging.

This bi-directional current and power monitoring module features the INA231A, capable of both high-side and low-side current measurements. It communicates via a 1.8V I²C interface and supports up to 16 programmable addresses, making it ideal for embedded and battery-powered systems.

The INA231A continuously monitors the shunt voltage and the bus voltage, providing accurate real-time data for current (in amperes) and power (in watts) through an internal multiplier. Programmable calibration values, conversion times, and averaging options reduce host processing load and improve measurement flexibility.

An integrated ALERT pin can be configured to trigger when user-defined thresholds are exceeded, offering system-level protection and diagnostics. The module operates over a supply voltage of 2.7V to 5.5V, with a typical supply current of just 330 μA. It supports a wide operating temperature range from –40 °C to +125 °C.

This module specifically uses the INA231A version, which starts in active monitoring mode immediately after power-up, unlike the INA231B which begins in a low-power shutdown state.
