5450-POLOLU, ACS37042KLHBLT-010B3 Current Sensor Micro Carrier -10A to +10A, 3.3V

Hall effect-based, electrically isolated current sensor in a 5-pin SOT-23 package with approximately 1.6 mΩ current path resistance and 150 kHz bandwidth.

Features:

  • Hall effect-based sensor with electrically isolated current path allows insertion anywhere in the current path, suitable for galvanic isolation applications.
  • Low primary current path resistance (1.6 mΩ) minimizes power loss.
  • Differential Hall sensing rejects common-mode fields, reducing susceptibility to external magnetic fields.
  • High-bandwidth 150 kHz analog output proportional to AC or DC current.
  • Less than 5 µs response time.
  • Output is not ratiometric, ensuring stable output regardless of supply voltage.
  • Integrated temperature compensation for improved accuracy across the full temperature range.
  • Automotive-grade operating temperature range: -40°C to 125°C.
  • Carrier boards available in micro (0.3″×0.4″) and compact (0.7″×0.8″) sizes with 0.1″-pitch breadboard-compatible connections.
  • ACS37042 ICs offer higher isolation ratings and are mounted on PCBs with routed slots for increased creepage distance.

Using the sensor:

This sensor has five required connections: input current (IP+ and IP-), logic power (VDD and GND), and analog output (VOUT).

Supply voltage should be 3.0 V to 3.6 V applied across VDD and GND. The analog output on VOUT is centered at 1.65 V and shifts by 132 mV per amp of input current—positive current increases the output voltage, and negative current decreases it. The output is not ratiometric, so the zero point and sensitivity are unaffected by the actual supply voltage.

Making connections to the board:

The board can be inserted into the current path in various ways. For high-current applications, wires can be soldered directly to the 0.045″×0.095″ slots. The slots can also accommodate 3.5 mm and 5 mm pitch terminal blocks as shown below:

The current path slots also fit a 1×2 0.2″-pitch header or a 1×3 0.1″-pitch male header (with the middle pin removed), allowing the board to span a breadboard gap when paired with headers on VOUT, VDD, and GND. Alternatively, two 1×2 0.1″ headers can be added near the edge slots, but this layout does not span a breadboard gap:

Warning: This product is generally intended for use below 30 V. Example images (such as use on a breadboard) are appropriate for low-voltage scenarios. Higher voltage applications should only be attempted by qualified individuals using appropriate safety precautions.
