Large I2C Serial 20x4 Character LCD – White on Blue
This is the largest character LCD found in the market. It has a viewing area of 123.5mm x 43mm and a character size of 9.75mm x 4.45mm which is very large in its class. It utilizes a SPLC780D driver (similar to Hitachi HD44780) which has the ability of displaying 8 custom characters as well as several pre-defined symbols and Japanese Katakana.
Despite having a very large viewing area, this LCD requires very little power to operate. It can be easily implemented in industrial, commercial, educational and personal applications where a large and visible display is required such as PLCs, embedded systems, Arduino, STM and Raspberry Pi projects. Since this LCD uses a transmissive polarizer, the backlight is much brighter than a transflective LCD.
This LCD module utilizes an I2C module to reduce the number of wiring in the system. An I2C device sends and receives data serially from the I2C bus. Implementing an I2C device requires some knowledge about addressing and framing the serial data in order to avoid data collision. The I2C MCU is accessible at address 0x27 by default; although it can be modified by soldering the A0, A1 and A2 jumpers on the I2C backpack PCB.
