This hybrid bipolar stepping motor has a 1.8° step angle (200 steps/revolution). Each phase draws 670 mA at 4.5 V, allowing for a holding torque of 950 g-cm (13 oz-in). The motor has four color-coded wires terminated with bare leads: black and green connect to one coil; red and blue connect to the other. It can be controlled by a pair of suitable H-bridges (one for each coil), but we recommend using a bipolar stepper motor driver.

This discrete MOSFET H-bridge motor driver enables bidirectional control of one high-power DC brushed motor. The small 1.3″ × 0.8″ board supports a wide 6.5 V to 30 V voltage range and is efficient enough to deliver a continuous 17 A without a heat sink. Additional features of this second-generation (G2) driver include reverse-voltage protection along with basic current sensing and current limiting functionality.

This breakout board for the MPS MP6500 microstepping bipolar stepper motor driver is Pololu’s latest stepper motor driver. The module has a pinout and interface that are very similar to that of our popular A4988 carriers, so it can be used as a drop-in replacement for those boards in many applications. The MP6500 offers up to 1/8-step microstepping, operates from 4.5 V to 35 V, and can deliver up to approximately 1.5 A per phase continuously without a heat sink or forced air flow (up to 2.5 A peak). This version of the board uses an on-board trimmer potentiometer for setting the current limit, and the board ships with 0.1″ male header pins included but not soldered in.

This gearmotor is a miniature low-power, 6 V brushed DC motor with a 986.41:1 metal gearbox, making it a great choice for applications requiring fine control at very low speeds. It has a cross section of 10 × 12 mm, and the D-shaped gearbox output shaft is 9 mm long and 3 mm in diameter. This version also has a 4.5 × 1 mm extended motor shaft. Key specs at 6 V: 14 RPM and 40 mA with no load, 70 oz-in (5 kg-cm) and 0.36 A at stall. (Note: stall torque and current specifications are theoretical values; stalling the motor will damage the gearbox.)

This compact expansion board plugs directly into the GPIO header on a Raspberry Pi and provides an easy and low-cost solution for driving a pair of small brushed DC motors. Its pair of integrated MAX14870 motor drivers allows it to operate from 4.5 V to 36 V, making it a great control option for small motors that run on a wide range of voltages. The board can deliver a continuous 1.7 A (2.5 A peak) per motor. This version ships as a partial kit; all surface-mount components are installed, but the included through-hole connectors are not soldered in.
