ADS1115 16-Bit Precision Analog-to-Digital Converter I2C Breakout Board

The following module is an Analog-to-Digital module that complements any system lacking ADC conversion. It provides a 16-bit precision conversion for up to 4 different multiplexed single ended analog inputs or 2 differential analog inputs. It can be setup in either single-shot (powers down after one sample conversion) or continuous mode (continuously converts samples).

This board can run on 2VDC to 5.5VDC and it doesn’t need a Voltage reference to be supplied to it as it uses an internal reference. The configurable sample rate of the chip can reach as high as 860 SPS and as low as 8 SPS.

This module also comes with a programmable gain amplifier to enhance smaller signals in order to bring them up to the configured full voltage scale. The implemented I2C interface allows the user to easily communicate with the ADS1115 by sending and receiving data to existing registers (see Datasheet, look for Register Map).

Program the module by accessing the “Config” register and fetch converted data stored in the “Conversion” register through I2C communication. It is also important to note that it has up to four different slave address options. This feature expands the number of single ended and differential inputs available at your disposal to 16 and to 8 respectively. 

It is also very easy to connect. Just use the silkscreen identifications for each pin to help you. Remember to connect your logic level voltage and ground to “V” and “G”. Also, look for table 2 under I2C Address Selection to understand how to connect the address terminal.  As for the other pins, it is self-explanatory.
